Four board members appointed to RPL Board of Directors

The Regina Public Library Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of four board members in 2018.

Retired librarian Phyllis Lerat (photo attached) is a newly-appointed member to the RPL board. Phyllis has been an active member of the Regina Aboriginal Professional Association and the Library Services for Aboriginal Peoples Committee, which has led to her participation as a host for the International Indigenous Librarians’ Forum. Phyllis has traveled extensively delivering papers on Indigenous library issues and has accepted appointments on the Ministry of Education’s Committee on Aboriginal Library Services, and on the National Library Advisory Board.

“I am pleased that Phyllis has joined the RPL Board of Directors,” Sean Quinlan, Chair, RPL Board of Directors, said. “Her wealth of library service experience and longstanding dedication to the community, and especially to Indigenous people, is a valued addition at our table. I look forward to working with her, and with all members of our board, in 2018.”

Three returning members have also been re-appointed to the board:

  • Elaine Kivisto was first appointed to the RPL Board of Directors in 2002 and was elected Vice Chair in 2004. She rejoined the board in 2017.
  • Marj Gavigan was first appointed to the RPL Board in February 2017. She has contributed to the board of the Sherwood Co-op Association for 18 years and the University of Regina Alumni Association board for six years.
  • Barbara March-Burwell has served on the RPL Board of Directors since 2015 and was elected Vice Chair in 2017. She represents RPL on the Regina Civic Employees' Superannuation and Benefits Plan and the Regina Civic Disability Plan, and currently serves on the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation Board of Directors, Executive Committee.

Sean Quinlan was re-elected as Board Chair for 2018, and Barbara March-Burwell was re-elected Vice Chair at the board’s annual general meeting on January 23.

Other current members of the board include Mayor Michael Fougere, Councillor Sharron Bryce, Starla Grebinski and Cindy Kobayashi.
