Saskatchewan Public Libraries At SUMA Convention To Promote SK Libraries

On February 5th and 6th, Saskatchewan Public Libraries hosted a booth at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) 2018 Convention, with the mission to promote library services in our province. Under the mantle of "Your Saskatchewan Public Libraries," library directors talked with SUMA convention delegates and other stakeholders about library services and the value of libraries within our Saskatchewan communities.

Wapiti Regional Library Director Tony Murphy was on hand both days, meeting municipal delegates and stakeholders, and explaining the positive impacts that today's public libraries have on their communities, whether from library materials, e-resources, and dynamic, community-engaged programming, to tangible economic impacts as well.

Murphy returned from the SUMA Convention feeling "positive and energized," and "very appreciative of the overwhelmingly positive response from visitors to the libraries booth." Murphy described the booth as "an extremely busy place," and reported that delegates repeatedly expressed not only their approval of having libraries represented at the convention, but also their appreciation of Saskatchewan's Public Libraries in general. Murphy added that the highlight for him was "being able to share face-to-face our appreciation of and gratitude for the productive partnerships our library systems have with the municipalities in our regions." Murphy also acknowledged the Town of Aberdeen's sponsorship of a resolution "Supporting the Public Library System," saying it was great to see municipal support for libraries take such a tangible form at the convention.
