SASKATCHEWAN LIBRARY TRUSTEES' ASSOCIATION

Honorary Life Membership
In Recognition of

Karen Basky

The SLTA Honorary Life Membership Award is a public way to recognize a member or past member of the SLTA for distinguished service on behalf of Saskatchewan libraries. This year's recipient has provided extra ordinary service to Saskatchewan libraries and it is my pleasure to introduce Karen Basky.

Karen has had a long history of hard work on behalf of Saskatchewan libraries. She was a member of the Moose Jaw Public Library Board for 6 years and a member of the Palliser Regional Library Board for 7 years. During her tenure with these library boards, she served on Friends of the Library as the library liaison, the personnel committee, the service levels committee, policy committee, and finance committee to name but a few.

As Palliser's representative on the SLTA executive, Karen served as treasurer, vice president and then president. As SLTA president, Karen was kept very busy while also attending briefings with the Minister for Libraries, SUMA and SARM conventions, the Multitype Library Board AGM and meetings of the library board chairs and directors.

Karen also served as the provincial representative to the Canadian Library Trustees Association in the last year served as Secretary Treasurer.

Karen taught school in Saskatchewan for 33 years, 9 of those years as Principal and 11 years a Vice-Principal. She was responsible for 3 school libraries over a 24 year period and taught library instructions, workshops in the Moose Jaw area for years.

Karen has been a conscientious and dedicated supporter of public libraries in Saskatchewan for many years. Her work and dedication was critical to the continued success of our one-province library system of which we in Saskatchewan are very proud. Our excellent library system is only possible because of dedicated volunteers like Karen. Karen is also the recipient of the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal for her work with libraries.

Karen you are a worthy recipient of the SLTA Honorary Life Membership Award.
