You can impact how your library is funded. Find people in your community and start a conversation.
Talk about your library to:
· Local/Provincial government representatives
· Federal government representatives
· Neighbors
· Co-workers
· Your local librarians and library board members
· Business owners and business leaders
· Friends of the library group or other library support groups
· Library board/library board members
· Chamber of Commerce
· Community leadership organizations
· Local government representatives/officials
o City council members
o The mayor
o City department heads
o Other community officials and representatives
Everyone in your community benefits from the services of your public library. Start a conversation about what matters most to you and your community. Then send a letter or email, make a call, or write an article and send it to the editor of your local paper. Share what your community does and remind people that the library supports everyone’s passions.
Share what your library does for you and your community:
· Call a local radio or TV station and share a story about how your library made a difference in your life or the life of someone you know
· Write a letter to the editor and send to a local print or online publication
· Blog about how the library supports you
· Use social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, to spread the word

· Learn more about how your library is funded and what your library needs from the community
· Call, write, or email your library to let its staff know you appreciate their contributions to your community
· Join a local library support group such as Friends of the Library
· Organize your own library support group
· Organize a fund-raiser for your local library
· Volunteer at your local library or make a donation
