An Update from Chinook

Jan. 22, 2020

We have been very busy in the Southwest corner of Saskatchewan. Jean McKendry retired at the end of May 2019; we hired Ashley Booth as Rural Branch Manager July 1 2019. First Kathryn got an introduction to southwest Saskatchewan then she passed on the information to Ashley. Ashley had a foundation knowledge having grown up in the Rosetown area and had been working for Saskatoon Public Library. Between us we have visited most of our thirty-one Branch Libraries and several of the Corner Libraries. Our welcome everywhere was warm and interesting.

We have been taking more programming to our Rural Libraries and many are also doing monthly or weekly programs. Literacy and technical exploration have been the focus of programming. The whole Chinook Regional Library staff gathered for a fall workshop with 66 in attendance. The duel focuses were literacy and Indigenous understanding and inclusion.

The excitement for 2020 has been the acquisition of a new property half a block away. The 110 11 th Avenue property has Library presence, and space to add new services and expand our present footprint. We look forward to moving in the spring when renovations are complete. We will be extending invitations when it is done!
